DeskNotchPrivacy policy.

Last updated 1 October 2026

The short version

DeskNotch keeps your settings, tasks and files on your PC, with no account and no analytics. The only thing it fetches from the internet is your Claude and Codex usage, straight from Anthropic and OpenAI, and only if you're signed in to those tools. Nothing is sent to BruhLabs.

Who we are

DeskNotch is made by Yash Srivastava and published by BruhLabs, an independent software studio. In this policy, "we" means BruhLabs. Questions go to the email address at the end of this page.

What DeskNotch saves on your PC

DeskNotch keeps the following in its own app data folder on your PC:

  • Your settings.
  • Your tasks and reminders.
  • Your focus sessions from the last 90 days.
  • The files on your shelf. DeskNotch saves where they are, not copies of them.
  • A companion photo, only if you choose to use one.
  • Your latest AI usage percentages and reset times, so the card shows something straight away. No passwords or sign-in tokens are saved.

What DeskNotch reads from Windows, and never sends

To fill the notch, DeskNotch reads the following from Windows as you use it. It stays on your PC:

  • What's playing: the title, artist, artwork and playback position from Windows' media controls.
  • Which apps are using your microphone or camera, from Windows' privacy settings.
  • Your Wi-Fi network name and signal, connected Bluetooth devices and their battery, and your PC's battery level.
  • CPU, graphics and memory usage.
  • Your most-used and installed apps, from Windows' own records, for the apps bar.
  • New screenshots in your Screenshots folder, so it can offer them to you.
  • If ScreenWise is installed, today's screen time from ScreenWise's database. It only reads, never changes it.
  • With the Glass style on, the part of the screen behind the notch, to blur it. That image stays in memory and is never saved or sent.

AI usage: the one network request

If you're signed in to Claude Code or Codex on your PC, DeskNotch can show how much of your usage limits you have left. To do that, it uses the sign-in those tools have already saved on your PC and asks Anthropic (api.anthropic.com) or OpenAI (chatgpt.com) for your usage, about every two minutes while the AI usage card is in use. Those requests go straight from your PC to Anthropic or OpenAI, never through BruhLabs, and are covered by their privacy policies.

DeskNotch never changes, refreshes or shares your sign-in, and doesn't save it anywhere. If you're not signed in to either tool, it sends nothing. To stop the requests, turn off the AI usage card and don't show AI usage on the closed notch. Opening DeskNotch's Settings also checks once.

What DeskNotch never does

  • No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no ads.
  • No account, and nothing sent to BruhLabs.
  • Links, like the one to ScreenWise or the GitHub page, only open in your browser when you click them.

Your files

The shelf only remembers where your files are. Discarding a screenshot from DeskNotch moves it to the Recycle Bin, so you can still get it back.

Your choices

  • Turn off the AI usage card, the screenshot catcher or any Home card in Settings.
  • Turn on Hide in screenshots to keep the notch out of screenshots, recordings and screen shares.
  • Delete your tasks and clear your shelf at any time.
  • Uninstall DeskNotch. Removing a Microsoft Store app removes its app data with it.

Microsoft Store

You get DeskNotch, and its updates, through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft handles that part, under Microsoft's own privacy statement.

Children

DeskNotch doesn't collect personal information from anyone, children included. Nothing is sent to BruhLabs.

Changes to this policy

If DeskNotch ever starts handling data differently, we'll update this page and the date at the top before that version ships.
